Mill Plain Traffic Safety Corridor

Vancouver Launches Corridor Project

About 70 volunteers waving signs with traffic safety messages lined Mill Plain Boulevard marking the official start of the Corridor.

Mill Plain was designated as a corridor due to the high number of fatal and disabling collisions. Between August 2002 and July 2005, there were 1,252 collision – just more than one collision each day. Two percent (2%) of these collisions involved fatal or disabling injuries and nearly 4.5% were alcohol-related.

Leading collision types reported include: Rearend, Angle, Sideswipe (same direction), Driveway-Related, Hit Fixed Objects, Hit Cyclist, and Hit Pedestrian. Leading contributing causes include: Following Too Close, Failing to Yield, Inattention, Exceeding Safe Speed, Disregarding Signal, and Under Influence of Alcohol.

Our Opportunity
A group of local citizens, businesses and public agencies are working together to make Mill Plain safe for everyone who travels on it. We are doing this by putting more officers on the street to look for unsafe drivers, making traffic safety improvements on the roadway, and showing people how to be safer when driving, biking or walking.
